Psycho-Pass

Beware of this anime. It wil get your Psycho-Pass cloudy for sure

And I start with a joke based on the anime, well...when you see it you'll go "Oh that's what he meant with cloudy Psycho-passes"

For those who don't get this obscure reference, 1:20 please.

The setting of this anime is the near future. Imagine that what's on your mind could be rated. And there was a system that could see everything you do, read, post and say. A system that could even calculate that rate from the minor body expressions you made. A system that would take your personality into account. That's the Sibyl System, the all-seeing system of the world of Psycho-Pass, that give ratings to every citizen in Japan.  That rating is called crime coefficient (CC in future mentions) and its shown in each individuals Psycho-Pass. The CC starts at 0, and usually is coded by colors in a hue, the higher the CC the darker the color of your Psycho-Pass is. The  The people live their lives hapilly, the system gives them the most suitable carreers based on evaluations and CC, so the future of a being is almost on the hands of the system. The crime rate is absurdly low because of that system. The cause is: if your Psycho-Pass is 'cloudy', being it having a dark color (ooh so that's what he meant by cloudy), even if you didn't commit a crime, you're considered a criminal and arrested. Some are even arrested since a young age. The ones that carry the CC law enforcement are The Ministry of Welfare Public Safety Bureau Criminal Investigation Department. It consists in three different categories:

The Enforcers: When a CC of an individual is high and it's determined that they have great detective skills or abilities that can benefit investigations, they are offered a position as an enforcer. They have restricted liberties and mobility and at any time can be shot down if deemed that they'll try to do something dangerous (or trying to escape).

The Inspectors: Inspectors are the ones who oversee the Enforcers and investigations.

The Analysts: They do support, from analysing data to healt check-ups. The only ones shown in the anime are also enforcers, I don't know if they can be normal citizens.

This is the world of Psycho-Pass in a nutshell.

The Relevant  Characters:

Kougami Shinya: An Enforcer for the MWPSB. He's been obsessed with an unsolved case involving a serial killer and the death of a fellow enforcer. Has superb detective skills, combat skills and is very intelligent. He has achieved maximum score in the Sibyl System aptitude test.

Tsunemori Akane: A rookie inspector that joins the MWPSB in the very first episode. She's very intelligent, scoring highly in the aptitude test of the Sibyl System, and has a very clear Psycho-Pass. She declined other offers from the system and chose the job of an inspector. She's polite, kind and a bit naive on the start of the series but eventually is shown that she's a tallented inspector.

Ginoza Nobuchika: A veteran inspector in the MWPSB. He's a strict person, avoiding emotional links to the enforcers as he fears that it will cloud his Psycho-Pass. Ginoza's bitterness contributes to his view that Enforcers are less-than human, treating them as "dogs" and even calling them so.  When Akane joins his team, he warns her against becoming friendly with the Enforcers. His bitternes towards Enforcers come to the fact that he could not stop an ex- partner's Psycho-Pass from becoming cloudy.

Makishima Shougo: The elusive villain of the show. He sees the system as imperfect and wants the public to know it. He's a very intelligent individual, at the same level as Kogami.

The Dominator: The weapon used by all MWSPB members. It can scan the target and sends the data to the Sibyl System to be analyzed,  and it will shoot depending on its CC score. If it doesn't reach a certain value, the Dominator trigger will be locked. The trigger will also be locked if the person using it isn't a part of the MWSPB and if it isn't linked wirelessly to the Sibyl System. epending on the CC/threat level of the target the dominator has 3 modes:

Non-Lethal Paralyser: functions as a stun gun, leaving the targets paralyzed. It's unlocked if the target CC is at least 100 points.
Lethal Eliminator: In this mode it shoots a blast of energy that causes severe damage, everything behind the impact gets , liquified and then bursts open. If a human is shot in a limb he will lose it, but he will survive. Use of the Lethal Eliminator mode  is restricted to individuals whom's CC exceeds the 300 points.
Destroy Decomposer: If a organic target is hit with a big ball of energy and it will be, as it's name says, decomposed leaving no trace.  As shown in the series, it leaves great damage in mechanical objects, but doesn't decompose it to no trace as seen with organic tissue, only damaging a certain radius.

The plot then revolves around solving a string of seemingly unrelated crimes, that eventually appear to be connected to one name: Makishima Shougo. Then a game of rat and mouse between Kougami and Makishima begins. I don't want to enter into further details because it's a show that lives on the misteryies and tension around it.

The soundtrack is average but the openings are sublime.

Art - 5/5 - Despite being an animated original, they chose Amano Akira, the creator of Katekyo Hitman Reborn! to design the characters. His art is one of the best in current mangas in my opinion.

Plot - 5/5 - The story is enganging and leaves you thinking because of the setting it is in, and how free the choices of an individual are.

Soundtrack - 3/5 - Aside from the openings no track that leaves a big impression.

Excitement - 5/5 - The show has some great cliffhangers and questions that leave you craving for more after each episode.

Psycho-Pass gets a clear hue of 18.
